What PSI to run in fronts/rears?
#1
for the first time we messed around with tire pressure to see its affects in the dunes, and found it really does play a huge part in traction. I ran 4 psi in my rear sand stars, and 5 in my front stockers.
This trip (we leave in 3 weeks for st anthonies/little sahara) I will have my new 22x8x10 sand star fronts, and dont know what pressure is best for front tires?
What is the highest/lowest safe psi? (should say on the tires I assume, but dont have easy access to them)
I could not climb sand mountain in 3rd gear last trip (could get 1/3 of the way up in 3rd, then had to drop to second) with 22x11x10 sand stars with a 15 tooth front on my ds. This trip I will have the 14 tooth front on ,and hopefully will be able to pull sand mountain in 3rd. (if I cant, I have a 17 tooth front, and can at least go faster up it in 2nd)
Just wondering what everyone else runs for psi in the dunes with dune tires.

i think i run around 7psi in my padla brats but its because its a lot of tire for my current motor and a light front end anyway.
when i had a 10 inch rim and sand skates i ran 4-5psi.
i like to run something similar in the front. get the fronts too hard and they dig a little too much when you lay off the throttle.

I have sand star fronts. and I have found that 3.5 - 4 lbs is pretty good for any front tire and rear tires between 1.5lb and 4

there wont be any problem with tires coming off the bead in sand will there? 1.5 seems really low, so I want to know jsut how low I can go, if I cant pull sand mountain in 3rd (that way I can go as low as possible on the PSI and then hopefully make it)

Depends on what your doing. and the sidewall of the tires. the sand stars do pop off the beads fairily easythough. butyou can run 2.5 or 3 lbs without any problems unless your tryin to ride around on 1 front and 1 rear. you may just need to find some more power in that DS or get a tire with a shorter paddle. i find the Sand stars Get ALLOT of traction. thus takin more power.

not to mention they're a heavy tire. you can pick up a couple MPH by switching to a lighter tire but make sure you dont get too much bite in the mean time if you do buy a lighter tire like a hauler or any other vulanized or comp cut paddle.

i will never let my family get another pair of sand stars. My dad rode a raptor with sand stars in the imperial sand dunes and the tread is already ripping. It's only like not even 30 hours on them. Iv'e had my sand skate II's for like 100 hours riding in the sand and their just fine. Back to the question though i find that it's good to have pretty full fronts and about 3/4 full in the back. Sorry about not knowing psi but i dont have one of those little stick that measure them.

what terrain have the tires been driven on? Seems like either they were abused or it was a manuf defect if the tread is ripping. Molded tires are really strong...I have run mine in the snow over logs and still dont have any chunked out or ripped paddles!

right at the tip of the v it's ripping. their not abused or they don't have a defect. because they'd be gone by now. After a while they just started ripping, the quad is a torque monster it has: pipe thats customa made, custom made intake, and jetted and it is faster than the other raptors with pipe kits.
