Does anybody here ever ride at the Hot Well Dunes near Safford?? Never been to Glamis or Dumont or whatever you call them. I just love my 5 mile by 5 mile dunes.

We've thought about going to Hot Wells. What's it like?

They have some great trails to ride with some great jumps. I always find something new to ride there. At night the hot tubs are a great place to relax. The only problem is weekend nights are the nights when all the party people ruin the night riding. Other than that it is my favorite dunes. You should come out here because it is a blast. If you really want to come ride we could take you out there.

Phoenix here!
Just got back from Glamis. Cool weekend. This was the first time to the Buttercup area. Not near as crowed as the Glamis area but still plenty of dune riding and racing at night. Still looking for some sand a little closer to home. Why don't you post a little more info about your area.
Thanks

I've never been to Buttercup to ride, but we scoped it out last summer. It doesn't look like there is much room to camp near the dunes. How does that work?

I agree with staying away from Glamis during the summer months. Our group usually heads north to the Flagstaff & Cinders area for riding. The temperature rarely exceeds 90* during the day at Flagstaff. The Cinder Hills make Glamis seem easy!Totally Cool Riding!!

Hey, I was just a buttercup this week to. I got there on Monday though. About every other vehicle we past that was going back to the valley was packed full of quads a sandrails. By the time we got there, we pretty much had the sand to ourselves. The only problem was that when we woke up Tuesday morning the wind had picked up. Thank heavens for goggles. I sometimes wore them in camp. The wind was still there when we left Wednesday afternoon. It sure made the sand virgen and soft. Can't wait to go back again.

Hot Wells is about one hour out of Safford AZ and Safford is about 3 hours away from Phoenix. Hot Wells does not get as hot as other dunes because it is so close to Mt. Graham. The biggest hill is about 2 1/2 telephone poles stacked high and is a blast to climb. The jumps are crazy and there is always something to do out there. The wind picks up more than I like though due to the warm air from Safford and the cool air from the mountain. But if the wind is not howling it is the best riding. If anyone needs directions just ask me and I will get give them to you.
