Are paddles necessary at Silver Lake?

duneman had it right, you dont need paddles, but they are sweet.
I noticed a night and day diffrence on my 300ex.
I went with the 22/11/8 dune hoppers on .190 douglas rims. cost me $180 shipped to my door from rocky mountain atv.

I am planning on going to silverlake this summer. would my recon do ok. by the summer mine will be bored to around a 300.

Last summer I got a set of 8 paddle Haulers to use on my 400EX at Silver Lake. At the time my 400EX had a 10-1 piston, stock cam, K&N, 14 tooth sprocket, and E-series slip-on, this set-up seemed to be a little too weak for the 8 paddle haulers. I think one less paddle would have been better with those mods because there was too much traction and the motor would bog at times. The stock 400EX tires are actually very good in the sand. You can get stuck easier with the stockers but you hardly ever bog the engine from too much traction. I wouldn't recommend paddles for just an occassional trip to the dunes if you still have the stock tires (I can't tell you how the holeshots do).
