I have a '00 400ex and an '83 atc 250r that I am planning to take to Silver Lake this spring/summer. Right now I have hole shots on tha ex and stock ex tires on the 250r, will these work or do I need paddles?

You do not "need" paddles for just an occassional trip to the dunes. Paddles really help but are not totally necessary unless your trip will be a very competitive one..If the sand is moist you will do just fine. If the sand is dry you may wish you had reverse, but not $175.00 worth, which is what paddles would cost. If you like the sand and will go back several times each year , then paddles are a great investment.

My wife runs Turf Tamers on her Blaster. I am getting her a set of paddles though. I have had to run the thing out of some trouble spots for her. I think she could have made some of the hills if the Blaster was paddle equipped. Gotta rev it pretty hard to keep on top. I think you have to wind on the motor harder if you are not running paddles.

Here's what i think. Paddles really help if you have some mods. Alot of people I went with w/ 400ex's prefered the stock tires over paddles on their pretty much stock 400's (engine/perf wise) If you dont like the way your tires hook up, DAR next door is a great store to shop at, he's got all kinds of paddles in stock, ready to go. He'll give ya a deal too, tell him you're from the ATVCONNECTION.

I agree with CJ as my friends were the guys with the 400ex's. All with stock motors switched back to stock tires by the end of the first day. The guys with built motors ran one tooth smaller front and pulled paddles easily but even with a 14 tooth front the stockers didn't upll them well and top speed lacked a lot.

By the way there is a huge Silver Lake dune trip planned for July 13-15th. Go to my page for info.

I think that paddel are almost necessary, but if youve got no money then its not a huge deal. It is a night and day diffrence. Buy from a mag though cause youll get very bad deal if you buy from david allen (the local quad shop).

actually, when you factor in shipping charges, DAR isn't a bad deal at all.
