Check out Newspaper Story 92 dB! I was hoping for 94 dB at least. This came out in yesterday's Oceana county's newspaper.

I wonder how many big weekends will have to be killed by the enforcement of this before the local business cry foul. I'm already considering changing my 2 planned trips to Silver Lake to Idaho or maybe Little Sahara.

Unfortunatly I think that's what they want. To shut the ORV area of the dunes down! The enviro-nuts have been trying to shut us down for years! The locals complain about the noise, which in my mind is like buying a house next to a pig farm and complaining of the smell! Then trying to put the farmer out of business! It's a shame but I think our riding day's are numbered at Silver Lake, if not done. I don't know how in the heck I am supposed to make my quadzilla meet 92db! I don't even know if it would make it with the stock system or not.....probably not. When you think about it, other than a handfull of house trailers on Fox road and and a few homes down past the chassis shop and Jeep rental, there really aren't any houses that would bothered that much by the noise. When you are in town in Mears you don't hear the engines of the machines in the dunes. The majority of houses in the area are even further away than that. The most noise in the area comes from Val-Du Lakes camp ground at night! I think the db thing is just a cover for something else, really! It would cause to much of an uproar if they banned us completly from using the dunes, so they just make it so we can't abide by their regulations and aren't able to get in that way. I know some of you west coast duners have db restrictions, what are they and how do you deal with them. If anyone know's of a siliencer for a quadzilla and/or a 250R to meet 92db let me know. Thanks!

A friend bought a tester. I want to see what my machines are at now even though I do not think they will pass. I was told by the owner of Drakart that my Formula Cross is 105db. I don't know how that is tested though. The 3000-3500 RPM for a 500 might be my saving grace. Maybe lower for a 583. Beter yet, maybe it will be classified as a dune buggy and get tested at 2000.

They list 250 and 500. What about a 350 and a 400? I'll argue for the 500 RPM. My FL350 spun around 7000 stock so 4000 is higher than half of that. Of course it spins 9000 now, but that is not the point. At least it won't be part of my point. My Pilot spins 7200 now. I don't know what stock was, maybe 6000.

I will try to get them all classified as buggies, but it is probably at the discretion of whichever DNR guy decides to test me.

zillaman500, I agree that the goal is to weed people out of the dunes. What really cracks me up is that many of the "enviromentalists" live on the private lake on the one side of the dunes that was made by building a damn. How many critters do you think lost their lives when their nests were flooded? How many fish died down river when the water level declined?

The FMF turbine core silencers are a lot quieter, but I don't know if they will make 92db. The last I heard, it was 95db for late model stuff and 99db for machines older than a certain year. I was going to have to make 94 with my '89 Pilot and 99 with my '85 FL350.

i think we better wait and see an official word from the DNR, i was sure i had read somewhere (i thought their website) it was going to be 94 db., they're running out of time, we shall know soon enough,

but i do know this, if they wont let a stock raptor in, im gonna be pissed, someone should know the exact level, and it would seem like they would have some leway on that number, but who knows, it is the DNR,

if they want us out...what is going to replace off roading as the money maker for that area? Scenic dune walks? haha right.
