I was just curious if anyone out there has personal experience w/ the Maxxis Roosters. I've been researching them but there's not a lot of write-ups about them yet. The straight paddles and the 'tracker' fronts look like good sand tires.

Thanks,
LS

I recently purchased a set of Maxxis Rooster "V" paddle rears and "tracker" fronts for my DS650 Baja. I'm going to the Oregon dunes in mid June, so I'll let you know how they work when I return. They look very cool and appear to be well made. Previously, I've had Sand Skate II rears with Dunetracker fronts, and Scat-Trak Edge rears with Mohawk fronts and they all worked very well on my Banshee. I just wanted to try the Roosters because they are a little different from everything else that's out there, and because they look so cool. Yes. I got them through Chaparral Motorsports. The fronts are $62.99 each (ouch!) and the rears are $68.99 each. I can't wait to get my Rooster-equipped Baja out on the dunes.

Here's something I witnessed at the sand drags this weekend.
A guy I race with has a DS Baja, He had a new set of Rooster straight paddles on & was Hitting the rev liniter in every gear & crossing the finish line (100 yards) in 5th gear In the low 7 second range. He tried a friends Haulers 22x11x10 (the same size as the Roosters) & crossed the finish line in 3rd gear in the low 6 second range. It turned out the roosters were spinning the entire length of the track & the Haulers hooked up.

Also he was able to do wide open throttle starts with the Roosters with out the front end coming up & Now he needs a wheelie bar with the Haulers!

So I can say with first hand knowledge that Roosters don't work on the big bore Quads!!

Thanks for the replies.

Re: Moose's experience over the weekend: I'm hoping to get the Suzuki Z400 in the near future and that is what I was considering the Roosters for. Thanks for the info tho' on the 650's. I have friends w/ Raptors who would find that interesting.

FYI...

Maxxis Roosters don't come in 22X11X10. As far as I know, they're only available in 20X11X10, so that may have been the difference in performance between them and the taller Haulers, depending on the sand conditions. Just a thought...

Also futtzing w/ the tire pressure may make a difference as well.

I'm back from the Oregon dunes and my new Roosters performed at least as well as Sand Skate IIs and Scat-Trak Edges. I really like them. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these v-paddles, though, so it will probably come down to personal preference and price. I will say this, however...the fit & finish of the Roosters is considerably better than that of the Skate IIs. Take care!
