Any info on St. Anthony dunes
#1
I have read quite a bit on the net about St. Anthony dunes and it is only a few hours from me , so I am thinking about hitting it soon.
Tell me about the camp ground and any info about different camping areas.
What are the average temps lately?
Basically any info would be great.
Thanks
Bat

Bat take the North Rexburg exit and head 8 miles west till the second flashing light. Turn left and go down 4.5 miles to the Egin lakes campgrounds. They are centrally located in the dunes like Oasis is and closest to the big dunes. There is a speed limit for quads on the trail to the dunes and it's enforced. There is a very nice campground if you just keep heading west instead of turning left. Nice trees, grass, but the guy is a pain in the butt.

Bat, Sandgod covered it pretty much. The free camping at Egin Lakes is a BLM campground and has toilets but nothing else and as far as I know is free. It's right there by the start of the big dunes. When you turn off of Red Road (from the North Rexburg exit) you will see the brown sign saying "Egin Lakes Access". If you don't turn towards the Egin Lakes area keep going straight to the Sand Dunes Resort. It has full hookups and showers/laundry and grass. They are booked pretty solid so call in advance. Their site is www.sand-dunes.com. I have some info on my site about the area under the "maps & directions" section for St. Anthony. I actually need to update that part come to think of it.
Anyway, Sand Dunes "resort" is about a 5 mile ride from the BLM campground which is pretty well marked and a fun ride in itself. One thing is that if you like hillshooting and climbing the big stuff then the BLM camp is a lot closer to all of that. Personally, I stay at the resort since it is a little more comfy for me.
It gets hot there in july/august I guess just like any other place but overall the temps are pretty decent and I don't think any time of the year is too hot to ride. I have always been there early or late in the summer and the weather is awesome.
I just added a bunch of video s to my site from my last trip there, check it out.

Hey thanks for all the info guys.
I think we would most likely stay at the resort if we go. It is not so important for me now that we have the camper, but my friend wants to take his wife and they only have a tent. So, I am sure they would have to stay at the campground with showers and all that.
Anyway, is the lake pretty fun to relax in and around? I heard that it dries up later in the summer.
Thanks

2fun, almost no chance of me being there; it's a 9 hour drive so I don't make it very often. When you do get there try to hook up with somebody that knows the area to show you around. It's a BIG place with lots of BIG hills to conquer to get around. I put a few GPS coordinates from there on my web site if that helps???
Bat, you better call the resort and make a reservation soon; they are pretty well booked. It's the best choice if somebody is in a tent.
