silver lake flag requirements?
#1
I want to drive my truck to the beach then unload my quad and ride from there. can I just put my flag on the truck and take it off when i get to the beach and put it back on my quad? or do i need to keep a flag on my truck even know its going to be parked?

I just called the Silver Lake State Park (231) 873-3083 and they said your truck needs to have a flag on it at all times, even when it is parked on the beach. A flag is only $20 at DAR and the ticket would be more than that unless they deceided to use Rule 9: "Violations of rules subject operator's vehicle to impoundment", then who knows what the cost would be.

You definately DON'T want to mess with the patrols at Silver Lake, I don't know what is like now, but when I was there in 95, a guy parked his dirt bike on the wrong side of the marker poles, along came the green truck, took the bike, 300 buck fine, and you have to come back to court a week later if you want the bike back!!! Like he said, an extra 20 dollar flag is cheap insurance.

There is a gate at the end of the parking lot with a pole across, I believe it is 8-10 feet high, your flag has to hit it to be legal height

The rules state 10' tall when mounted standing still, 8' tall mounted when moving. There's a bar at the guard shack at the head of the enterence lane that your flag has to hit and it's only about 10' high. To be absolutely sure of no hassles, use David Alan Racing's flags. When we were there last October, those were the only flags that they were allowing in as there were 30-40 mph winds coming in off the lake and everybody else's flag shafts were too small of a diameter, therefore too flexible to meet the 8' minimum.
