Christmas Valley Oregon
#2
I've ridden the Christmas valley dunes a few times over the years. I don't think you will ever see one much over 50ft tall.
Want to be alone? go during the next month during the week, you will probably have the whole dunes to yourself. Want a crowd? try Memorial or labor day or the 4th of July.
Remember that this is a desert and it can get friggen cold. You won't see many tents out there. Bring plenty of water, it's a dust pit, also your own firewood.
You are pretty close, you should really check it out.

Thanks Mystereid. I have been there several times, I had heard that the summer had flattened them out even more this year.
And dust pit is definately an understatement. I like to go there in the spring when things are still a little damp.

We have gone every May lately, I always hope for rain because it never lasts to long and it keeps the dust down.
I don't really know how much the dunes can change say in months or a year. In florence where I ride year round the faces just get steeper in the winter.
