Greetings from Central Oregon.

I've been riding street and trail motorcycles for 50 years and decided a couple weeks ago to guy a cheap used Chinese ATV, a Taotao ATA250D. It's a simple 2wd, chain drive machine with a up-sized Honda CG125 clone engine. I have a couple small dual sport bikes with similar engines that have been highly reliable.

The local forests have over 8,000 miles of roads and trails that are open to ATV use so that ought to keep me busy for a while, and that's only 2 of the many national forests in Oregon. I spend winters in southern Arizona and figure an ATV will ride the washes easier than the motorcycle I usually ride.

Stock gearing on this quad was way to high for the type of riding I'll be doing so I dropped the ratio quite a bit. It would do almost 50 mph which seems dangerous on such a short wheelbase with soft tires. Exploring rather than racing is my intended use. Heading out for my first real ride tomorrow, tow rope in hand in case I'm called on to tow a Honda back to civilization.
