Sand Lake is turning into a DUMP!

Please Please Please, the next time you visit Sand Lake, please help with trash problem. It is becoming a BIG problem. I am sick-n-tired of riding over glass, bottles and other debris.
For those of you who Sand Camp, quit throwing bottles and cans in your bonfires...you are wrecking the place! ]

Amen to that!!! Sand Lake has become a freak'n litter box. It's gotten to the point that I won't even get on the throttle until I'm past the Sand Camping area. You never know what you might run over. Same thing for the bottom of the first bowl. Everyone hangs out down there and trashes the place. I've seen guys line up to race and when they take off, trash is flying in their roost. Someone, or someone's machine is going to get hurt. Maybe we should try to oranize some sort of clean-up/ride one of these weekends??

It is a little disheartining when you have to spend 1/2hour or more cleaning up a spot to camp in the trees. At least I know our camp is cleaner when we leave, then when we got there..There is no excuse for anybody to leave any garbage on the treeline..thats just rude..pack it out!!.. as far as the hill goes..Most of it, my guess, is kids that dont want to get busted for having empties in the truck..ezier for them to just bury-um in the sand..We would be up for a ride/clean up

How about November 17th?? It's a Sunday. We can go out there and pick up junk for a while and then go ride. I'm sure they wouldn't mind us putting all the trash in the dumpsters by the bathrooms when we leave. Let me know if anyone would be interested, and I'll send out an email to my local riders list (about 30 riders). We should be able to do some good out there.

Hey Bill,
Didn't know there was a clean-up 3 weekends ago, otherwise I would have been there. Long time since I've heard from you. You still live in Lake Oswego?? I'm thinking we're only a few miles from each other now. Anyway, I'll shoot out a message to the group and see if I can get any other riders interested in the clean-up effort. Maybe we should put an actual post on here about the clean-up, but I suppose this one will do.

Can anyone think of a clever device that can rake through the sand in all the trees to sift out glass and garbage?

Hmm... a clever device. You almost need something like a miniature potato digger or rock picker- and a big 4x4 to pull it. Dang it, now you got the wheels turning and I have no time or $$ to try anything.

A friend and I were discussing it this weekend that dragging a 4-5 foot wide steel mesh device through the sand would be ideal. Sand would sift through and the glass, metal, nails and garbage would be collected. I think Jesse James (Westcoast Choppers) should build us one on the Monster Garage tv show.
