Oregon Dune, where to stay?
#21
Everyone doesnt have a house with dune access? =Þ I would stay at a motel in Coos bay and hit up Houser one day, and Winchester the other. I am blessed with parents that own a mobile on Saunders Lake with dune access right through the back yard. And yes, I do go almost every weekend possible. They will never sell that place if I have anything to do with it.

Spinreel is nice cuz u dont get alot of the riffraff too. Most people have trailers with bathrooms/showers so we have no problem there. Horsefall is just a parkinglot, spinreel is much more like a campground and like i said you can reserve spaces on that website. Sean

We go down to Florence several times a year (6 hour drive from here). In the early spring (Feb) we usually stay at the park motel for weekend trips. Half way between the Honeyman entrance and the road to South Jetty. Nice and clean. Also off the highway far enough that the bikes aren't easily visable. They've added some "park model" trailers as well if you need multiple rooms or a kitchen.
As far as the dunes, we usually ride in Florence most of the time with day trips down to Coos. We road Winchester for the first time on a weekend trip in Feb (had to try the new DS!). Didn't get to see much, a big rain squall hit and made riding miserable. Florence has a good variety of terain (drags, hills, trails, open sand). If you take the time to check all of the areas out you'll find that Florence has a lot more to offer than many people realize.

Well, I guess I started this thread, I should report back.
My riding buddy and I drove down from seattle weekend before last, and we stayed at the Winchester Bay Inn in Winchester, and rode the dunes there for two days.
The dunes there are amazing, extremely high, lots of challenging hill climbs and many very very cool "air time" opportunities. Plus win bay has a great bistro in town. We had a serious blast. Burned 10 gallons of fuel in about 120 miles of riding :-P The only casualty was lost keys in the dunes, which was rectified by a great locksmith from reedsport, for 50$, including picking the cable lock for the bikes in a total of about 3 seconds.
The motel was semi-decent, it was 55$/nite, I could have done without the Jesus brochures in the lobby.
Planning on going back, but to florence this time, and taking the wife, atv, and bike. I think we will check out the park motel or ?? Any other options there that someone might recommend?

we stay at the money saver in florence, and then in the morning it is just a short walk down 101 to the florence cafe, cheap food friendly people, and that way the parking isn't a problem. there are alot of other motels but they are friendly there and we stay there enough that they give us a break on price probably $3-5 but hey, we enjoy it
