Here's my winch, I think I over-loaded it.
It wasn't the most wxpensive but I think I wuld have trashed any one of them.

Sage brush comes right out, you can almost up-root it with your bare hands.

When/if you get a new winch get a small boating sand anchor. They work in dry dirt too. Up here it's rare to find an area where there isn't a tree or big rock within 25 feet.

Probably no winch would have held up but a good Winch Company would have

Now, Dodge57Hemi, it's made by the Champion Winch Co. Not, the Also-ran Winch Co. or the We Tried But We Lost Winch Co. It's made by the Champion Winch Co. I can understand a winch from the Loser Winch Co. or the Failure Winch Co. faltering, but not the Champion Winch Co. Big

That winch was a POS the day I took it out of the box.

I had a tow strap attached to the cable that was in all the way and was trying to move a fallen tree.

I pulled closer to the tree and there was about three feet of slack in the strap, put it in reverse and hhit it and it shattered the winch.

Here's the tree that ate my winch. LOL

A tree that size is a LITTLE ambitous to say the least. Better get a truck sized 8000 lb. winch next time, Specta!!!

I was hooked to the top of the tree, just wanted to move it enough to get around it.

First try I moved it about a foot, so I tried harder, and harder - then gave up.

Should have been a piece of cake for the old Honda and Champion winch. LOL

We once went into a town on a nice railbed trail and rode up in the woods for a few hours. Just before we came back a nasty microcell thunderstorm came through. It knocked down a tree where there was a vertical bank going up one side and a near vertical drop on the other. We had winches and 3 winches barely moved it away. We ended up pulling it just enough to drive over the top branches while someone else stood on them. Trees are tough.
