Paiute Trail, Utah

Nothing like life up in the mountains. When we crossed the Black Hills going out of South Dakota and towards Yellowstone it was snowing and it was Aug. 27th, 2004. Completely different world at those elevations. Loved the shot with the sun! Nicely done.

It's tough Moose but somebody has to live here.
I took two different groups on a tour today up Deer Creek Canyon. They rent our machines and follow us through the mountains.

Fall is in the air already.

This is what I saw coming back from my 2nd tour today, that's Big Rock Candy Mountain in the left of the picture.
The fire is about 4-5 air miles from my place. My good friend was waiting for me and said it was time to start moving.
We took my vintage travel trailer, truck and car to his ranch. We are taking my ATV trailer and some
other miscellaneous stuff in the morning and getting my place ready just in case I get the word it's time to go.
At this point I am very angry with the Forest Service for the way they have handled this fire.

Here's a picture I took from my friends ranch. This is the original fire and it has spread clear up to my place.
Right now I’m fine and not in any immediate danger and have been able to put myself in a position that I can vacate on a moment’s notice and I have to thank my good friend for helping me be in that position.

Great pictures and nice video. Hope the fire gets put out. It's nice that we pay the wages of the Forestry Service but they're willing to let a fire threaten our homes????? What has happened to this country?

I took this one tonight; the fire has calmed down a bit but it’s spreading in opposite directions.
The fire is a mess. The fire started July 20th and has burned over 22,000 acres so far and 11,000 of those acres burned yesterday and last night.
The Forest Service took a chance, gambled and lost. It has burned way more than they anticipated and it burned in the opposite direction than they had planned.
Sometimes when I see the devastation caused to our public lands by the U.S. Forest Service it makes me wonder why I even bother preserving and protecting it as much as I do.

Awesome pics, Specta. I hope they get the fire put out. Did they find out how it started?
I have rode on the Paiute Trail twice now and it is the best place I have ever been riding. I recognized a few of your pics. Man you are so lucky that you live so close. I am from Indiana and it is a long drive out there.
Have you been to the Devil's Back? We went there the first time and watched a Jeep climb up and come back down. That Jeep was geared so low that he was giving it gas coming back down. When he made it to the bottom, we talked to him and asked him how bad it was and he said not that bad. But he had sweat rolling off of him from being so nervous. Somebody in our group tried to climb it on his Foreman 500, got about half the way up and got in a bad position. Me and a another guy ran up there to help him back down.

For some reason I can't edit my post to fix my mistake.
It is not called the Devil's Back, it is called the Lion's Back and it is in Moab. I got a few pics of my friend trying to climb it on his atv. I wonder if it has ever been done on an atv.

thanks, I wanted to go up Lions Back in my truck several years ago when we used to do Moab but the group I was with and my wife refused to let me. That weekend two young men from Salt Lake were killed trying to go down the back side, had we been down there the week before it might have ended uo being one more awesome ride.
I live here at Big Rock Candy Mountain and no doubt I'm fortunate to ride here when ever time permits. I do try to get out at least once a week.

Headed up this trail today, I stopped and picked up my friends RZRs center cap for him.
H e has a very early RZR and it has been virtually trouble free.

Sue brought some of her friends along for the ride.

We stopped here for refreshments and pictures. Barney Lake, one of my favorite rides.

Fall is in the air. We’ve had 3 nights below freezing.

This was somebody that I caught littering the trails last year.
