Hey, Specta, I got the Millard County brochure. Intriguing looking places!!!

Next question is are there trails to the south that are also west of the Paiute? What county would that be?

The trouble I have with Utah is there are almost too many places I want to ride. I think I'd need at least a couple months to scratch the surface. Want to go down around Bryce as we were stopped by bad rain storms by Circleville when we were out last fall. Would love to ride the Capitol Reef area too. Maybe Moab in the future???

 

That would be Beaver County. Give me just a little bit of time and I will get you info.

Utah has over 76,000 miles of roads/trails you can ride your ATV on.

Fishlake Nat Forest, where I live has 807 miles of 50" trails.

Like you Moose - I too am intrigued.

 

I'll try to remember to look online today. I'm sure I can dig up something on Beaver County. Millard County did a nice job on their brochure. At least, a good starting place.

 

Yesterday's ride didn't turn out being as much fun as I had hoped.
I got stuck multiple times and ended up winching myself a total of a good 300 ft+.



I do have alot of tow straps and synthetic rope with me - maybe 200+ feet.
I was attached to that rock with the red arrow pointing at it.
Not much here to winch from.



I even snapped my synthetic winch rope.



I thought I was on my way and buried Brutus one more time.
I had winched 3 times to get to this point.
I even taught myself a few new swear words.
It was a nice warm day and the snow was like slush.

 

It probably wasn't so much that that snow was slush, the ground underneath the snow was probably just a muddy mess after it thawed out.

 

At least, if you rode with us out here, there would be plenty of trees to tie off too.

 

One time I needed to winch my quad out of a deep mud hole and the trees were too far away for my 50' cable. There was a bunch of bushes that were so skinny you could break them off with your hands but I put my tow rope around the whole bunch and made sure it was down by the ground winched myself right out. Sometimes you get lucky. Most of the time there are trees everywhere.

 

I remember seeing on a tv show about offroading across Alaska a few years ago, one group had something that looked like the blade on a plow that they would simply dig into the ground and winch from when there were no trees. These were full size rigs wheeling across Alaska in a race for a $50,000 price I think. They had to pass through checkpoints each day and the times were cumulative, so if one group finished 20 minutes ahead, they carried that into the next day. The group with the plow thing ended up winning too. It would obviously be very heavy and bulky to carry on an atv(possibly a utv though) but since atvs are lighter, you could use something smaller. It didn't always work that well, sometimes the mud was so sloppy that sometimes the winch would simply pull it out of the ground. Again, a much lighter atv wouldn't be as likely to pull it out of the ground.

 

There are a lot of different ground anchors, from the kind that look like a plow to a simple stake you pound into the ground. This looks like a really good one for ATVs but it appears that the company went out of business. Even with the brakes locked up it's dug in good enough to winch him out.
