4-wheelers trespassing

I'd make some home made spike strips. Get a 2x4 and put 12d nails through it every 4 inches or so. Put them out late at night buried a little if possible with just the nails exposed. They'll run over them in the dark, get flats and hopefully go away. I'd pursue the police idea first though. It's sad that people just walk all over property owner's rights. There is no need for it. Especially at 3 am in the morning. I know I'd be ticked off.

We had this problem up north. Go buy some steel cable, bout a 1/4" round, and start winding it around trees across the trail. BE SURE TO MARK IT WITH SOME MARKING TAPE. You dont need someone ripping through and cutting themselves in half.

It is perfectly clear to me that you are dealing with kids that were never told NO. In Illinois if you go to the police station and file a formal complaint it has to be addressed. It makes me sick the way people raise their kids. I have nephews who are for all intents and purposes were WORTHLESS when they were young because they had never been told no. Their Mother, my sister used to call and complain about her sons behavior and I let her have it a few times and she stopped. She finally confessed after several years that she failed miserably by not telling them no, and punishing them for their bad behavior and disrespect of others. When I was that age, I had parents all over town that were happy to jerk a knot in my tail for anything and everything that I did that was wrong or disrespectful. There were some things that were out of order, but for the most part "old school" is the best school.

I wouldn't even think of doing this as you'd be held responsible if someone hurts them selves, even with the tape. I would suggest that you put up something like saw horses or some kind of gate with reflective tape accross the trail and a ways beyond. This would be big enough to be seen before they get with-in 50 feet, even in the dark, unlike a cable with some tape.

we have the same problem with people going to our property who are not local and go fishing and riding and doing what they want. they dont even care to pick up their beer cans and bottles. Fortunatly, we know exactly who it is and they have been told to stay off. I now have a collection of cans and trash, that when i collect enough they will find it on THIER property with a note. Anyhow, besides them, there are others who go there who are local and we decided to put up a gate using pvc pipe that we made across the trail. This makes for a visable(at night) gate that is cheap enough that if they want to be rude and brake it,it wont be alot of money out of our pockets, and if they do hit it its less likely to injure them. we also have orange signs up with orange ribbons on the gate. We also put about 50 ft of barb wire on each end and so they dont go around. all this seems to help. They get the picture. Materials for the gate: 2" pipe (about 20-25 ft) 2 "Ts" ( for the center piece) and 4 90s.. cheap ,simple, visable. gate is about 6ft x 4ft. and is mounted to a tree. good luck.

i forgot to mention that i have trail cameras up at my friends farm and we now know who is riding on his property at night. perfect pics. of the locals riding where they want, just having a good ole time with out permission, but we know who they are. To be honest, his dad didnt seem to care to much for the fact we never found the terrain torn up or any trash left behind. As long as it remains like that he wont say anything. Hes not against them having fun as long as they respect him and the land.
