Wanting a high flow air filter like the K/N
#1
Does anyone know how much of a difference a k/n filter makes, I mean power wise. Why do people use them? Are they easy to service? Here's the one I want for my 2009 grizzly 550.

iv got a k/n. and really the only reason i got it is it will be chaper in the long run. the reoil and cleaning kits are $12 here. i got the k/n filter off ebay new for $30. use the prefilter thats on the stock atv. you wont notice any power increase. if there is it will be small and not really noticable. i have noticed anything. i will also keep my old filter just incase something happens to the k/n filter.

Just a thought, but if you are running in dusty conditions you may want to consider a foam filter like UNI, rather than K&N. They filter fine particles better and are cheaper. I have been hearing more and more mechanics say that they have seen engine damage from running K&N's due to their inability to filter super fine particles of dust. They are recommending foam filters or the stock papers. I run UNI's except in the sand, where I switch to K&N as they seem to last longer and have no problem with the larger particles like sand. The K&N doesn't really breathe any better than a good foam filter like UNI. I read one article recently that claims we over-clean our air filters and every time you R&R one you risk getting dirt in the carb/intake. They also claim that their tests show a slightly dirty air filter performed better than a freshly cleaned one!
I hope I didn't just throw a wrench in your plan and completely confuse you! LOL!

Lol....no worries brother!! That's the whole reason for these forums. So ppl can share their experiences and insight. Plus your info is dead on with what I need, I do run in extremely dusty conditions, so perhaps you just saved me from wearing out my motor permaturely. THX!! I'll definantly go with the UNI filter, it was a toss up between the 2 for me anyway.
