Throttle Mod - Freaking Awesome!!!
#1
Well I set out this morning with my quad, my tools and the parts. I started out with the installation of the throttle spring. I decided to bite the bullet and get the kit from JohnHonda off of ebay. I was concerned at first that it was a bit expensive. Upon further inspection, the kit comes with the spring, 4 replacement screws for the TPS plate should you need them, and also a set of clean and clear step by step instructions with pictures to guide you along once you have the carb out. I first set the new spring up to work on the secondary mount point with an added knotch as when you are doing the spring mod with the stock spring. It worked but didnt work. The spring, when set on the secondary modified mount point will not close the throttle slide plate all the time. I put the new spring on the original mounting point and it worked great. I then moved on to swapping the Yamaha Thumb Throttle for a Honda TRX Thumb Throttle. The only issue is that the Throttle Override System switch thats mounted in the Yamaha thumb throttle housing will have to be taped and zipp tied up out of the way.
I went out on a good 2 hour ride to test out all different riding conditions(light and good ole hot rodding) and the results of doing these mods(carb slide plate retraction spring and switch to Honda Thumb Throttle) are Freaking OutStanding!!!!!!!!!!! My thumb felt fine the whole ride where as before my thumb would be killing me within the first 45 mins with the stock Yamaha parts. I highly recommend it.
