Are you refering to a poker run? Golfers participate in scrambles. Never heard of an atv scramble.

Do you mean Hare Scramble?

If so rules for Hare Scrambles seem to vary depending on who is sanctioning the event.

In general, a Hare Scramble (HS) is a mix between Cross Country (XC) and Motocross (MX). The HS is often a timed race (1-3hrs) or can be set laps; set on a course that is smaller than an XC track but bigger than an MX track. It also has parts that go into the woods, and sometimes on a track or open fields.

It has been my experience that HS races have higher speeds than XC racing as there are often wider more open trails involved. But it can also twist back into the woods to slow you down. I think they are a fun type of race.

THANKS SS97. The HS is what I was asking about. There is one near by me here and I wanted to participate, and that's what I was hoping it was.

True harescrambles ARE xc races. Some will incorporate some mx as well depending on the facility/promoter. Depending on the series, scrambles are usually between 6 and 12 mile courses. A lot of fun, very tiring, pretty much you just have to do a gutcheck and keep going once you get tired.
