Plowing question.
#1
Hello.. I just picked up a Glacier 1 plow set up for my ATP. I was wondering if everyone uses the skid feet that comes with the plow. I never used them before. Should I use them?

Yep, use mine set for 1 to 1 1/2 inch because of gravel drive and uneven ground. No point in plowing up gravel that cost $ and back pain to put in. The ground here is so uneven that even with the plow all the way up the skids touch the ground where my drive hits the road.
Basic rule for road maintenance is 3/4 inch clearance from surface.

Absolutely use them. My driveway is concrete and I set the skids so they're even with the blade. It makes the blade last for years. On a brand new plow I actually set it so the skids aren't quite touching. The blade soon grinds to be perfecly even with the skids.

Just an update: I took everyone's advice and I am using them. I have plowed twice so far and it is working out very good. I set them so the blade is barely off the ground. Just wanted to thank everyone. Thank You.

i used to use them but they wore out then broke and fell off. I decided not to use them anymore. the blade still has plent of wear on it and a new steel piece is only 20-30 bucks at home depot. cheaper than buying new skidders that arent going to last as long. I dont plow a whole lot though, since all the snow tends to go around st.louis.

i built my plow. i never added skids/feet to them. i have a 1/4 x 4" wear bar on mine. this will be my second winter useing it to plow other driveways. i used my plow on aprox 3 places. for a total of about 20times ish. on concreat driveways about 3 cars long avg. so far its wore off 1/4" of the wear bar. not bad. evon tho i think 1/8" of it was tell it wore to the angle of the driveway to get the square edge off.
