Honda Vs. Yamaha
#13
The 01 models did have a problem with self detonating transmissions, but the issue was addressed by Yamaha and no other year models had that problem.

That's not to say every single 01 model broke. But it was a large enough number for complaints and for them to take notice and fix the issue.

If you can handle a bit more maintenance(more frequent oil changes mostly) and don't mind lack of reverse, I would go with a 450. Unless you find one already done up for a smokin price, the 450 will outperform a 660 in pretty much any category. Better suspension, handling, and more power for starters. The only other big drawback is a 450 doesn't like to go slow for long periods of time, they need a bit of airflow to keep them cool. I would also pick a 700 over the 660 any day, much better design and they essentially already have YFZ suspension.
Having said that, when buying used, machine maintenance and condition become much bigger driving factors.
The Z400 and her sisters are a great compromise and one of the best bang for the buck all around use sport quads, worth a look.
