Hey guys i know some of you are die-hard Honda and Yamaha fans but i really need an unbiased opionion.

Ok so I'm in the market for another quad. In the past ive had the 400ex which to me is bullet proof if taken care of right. And now im looking into another 400ex 450r or the Yamaha yfz450 or raptor 660. I know all of these quads have a ton of power and im an experienced rider so thats not a problem. Im doing mostly trail riding and some jumps/straight aways. Im thinking for my app the 450's would be the best call, but again im not sure. I know the 660 is a powerful quad but ive heard a lot of problems with them, mostly the 01-04 years. The last thing i need is a headache. The money part is also not an issue its more or less deciding and going to get.

YFZ 450 gets my vote
Or opt for the 700 raptor which is my first choice
I never liked the 660 raptor, especially when then revamped it to the 700

 

First of all you are comparing apples and oranges any 450 is pretty much a all out race bike whereas the 400, 525, 660, 700 are pretty much trail bikes per say and will be much more suited for the type of riding you are referring to. Any bike nowadays will last if taken car of , they all need a little TLC now and then as no bike will last without it!

 

Well see thats the thing, i liked the 400ex's versatility but ive ridden a 450r and it seems that the power is right. ive never ridden any of the Yamaha's but ive been told to stay away from the 660 any truth to that?

 

The Raptor 700 is a better bike out of the box for sure but to say the 660 is bad bike is so wrong in so many ways. You can buy a stock 660 and turn it into one of the fastest best riding bikes made! They got a bad rap for being slightly top heavy but it got that rap from people trying to make it a race bike in which case it surly is not. As a trail bike I would put up there with any of them! IMHO as a trail bikes rate I would say the Raptor 700 rates first with the Z400 second 400ex 3rd and 660 5th and NON are a bad bike for what they are intended to do! For what you are looking for I would go for a Suzuki Z400 as it will be very close to a 450 in power yet has a chassis/motor like a trail bike does!

 

Ok thanks, ive never looked into a Suzuki before. Never really caught my eye for some reason. I just found a 2004 Raptor 660 for 2200 that im defenitely going to go take a look at. Seems like a sweet deal. I think ill go test ride a suzuki first before i make a decision, but if the 660 rapes....its mine lol

 

Both quads will be great but if you are a bigger guy and you want more of a trail marine more than a race bike you will like the Raptor best but if you are smaller and want more of race bike an a little trail than the Z400 will be best. If you are small and want all trail the 400EX is your ticket!

 

Not so much on the small side lol. 6'4'' 245lbs ha. I think im going to go with the raptor 660 and if i have no luck with that im going to look into the z400. If everything comes apart ill look into the 450's and the 400ex. Im thinking the 660 will do me good being big with the extra cc's and i was told it was more of a torque monster than anything else. Yep the 660/700 is your ticket! There just is not a sport quad made that will lug like the Raptors due. The only other quad that comes to min is the Can-Am/Bombardier DS650 and they still are only a match for a 660 and good luck finding parts for them!

 

Haha yeah ive heard. Plus isnt the DS650 more for sand? Im defenitely going to go with the 660 like you said, the 700 is a bit more pricey and i can just make it that fast with a few mods. Thanks for the advice!
