Default New ATV Rider

Hello everyone! first time post. Well i've just recently gotten into going to the local mudfests and events down here with my buddies, tagging along with their buggies and 4 wheelers. Ive come to appreciate the fun and excitement you can have to run through the mud on weekends with your toys. Ive never owned an atv, but over the past few months or so ive realized its time for myself to search for a quad that fits me. As a college student who is on his way to the University of Florida, u can imagine money is a little tight so probably the best bike for me would be used, that is still in decent shape. As an avid deer hunter, an atv to throw a deer on the back or to use to strap a cooler full of beers at mudfest would be a great addition. I am not too familiar with the best brands or size motor that would be best suited for running a little mud or riding to a deer stand. I guess what im asking is what would be the best atv for me in the $2000 price range?

there is no way anyone can tell you what is best for you because you have to test out them and find that out.

A rule of thumb is if your going mudding your going to break stuff and or shorten the life of the ATV

For reliable ATVs honda has the best name but any atv you take proper care of will last you. ( Hondas im my opinion are reliable because they are a no frill atv with old trusted technology; the ride is probably the worst of all the big atv companies and they dont have a true 4x4 system the front doesnt lock)

For the best ride everyone says polaris takes the cake for several years running with can-am taking a close second as of recently.

Just tyr not to get brand loyal and look at the features that you want and need.

Plus look at who your buying the atv from if they beat the crap out of it you dont want it, if they used it for mudding you dont want it. Find an old grampa that used it for ice fishing and putting around the yard but did fluid changes.

polaris may have a nice ride, and honda may not have a locking 4x4 system for the front wheels, but honda has 4x4 in reverse, polaris doesn't, it was sad to find that part out about my buddies 800 h.o. sportsman.

personal opinion, stick with yamaha or honda

My 2009 Sportsman 800 X2 has reverse 4x4. It isn't automatic though. To use 4x4 in reverse I have to hold a reverse override which removes the speed limiter and engages 4x4 if it is already set.

look for what you want to do it like stated above mudding will break things if you want to jump things think sport ATV. I've only had Polaris ATVs had good luck with them but I take care of it. any ATV will last if you do that
ps they do have reverse in AWD you just hold the overide botton in while backing up
whatever you decide on good luck and welcome to the sport.

What do your buddies ride? Have you ridden their quads? Try that.

Looks on Craigslist, ask your friends if they know anyone selling a quad, etc. Takes some time and legwork to track down a decent used quad...or seems like a decent used anything.

I just bought a used quad for my son. Wanted a Honda, couldn't find any for sale, looked at a couple Kawasakis but they had been beaten on, looked at a few off brands but wasn't comfortable with getting parts/quality, finally found a 2005 Suzuki that was like brand new....so my choice easily changed to Suzuki.

Good luck to ya.

Polaris does'nt have 4x4 in reverse? What are you smokin? Yes polaris does have 4x4 in reverse . You have to push in the reverse override button for the 4x4 to be engage backing up. It's called a saftey feature! Your buddy's sp 800 was broke or he does'nt know how to ride it. Sorry for the sarcasm but it bugs me when someone spews info and does'nt know what they're talking about.

had i known about this sooner i would've told him about it when we were in attica friday, oh what a fun day that was, nearly killed myself but hey i'm still standing!
