Looking to do a straight trade, a 2000 Bombardier 650DS for a 1999 Yamaha Big bear 4x4 350, with seat/windshield

I love mud boggin, the Bombardier is decent at it but being a 2x4 she gets stuck quite a bit.

So being a mud type of guy, would this be a wise trade? Worried about the 350cc.. being a bit low, i'm a very heavy guy.

What are your thoughts?

 

Sit on it to feel if your Comfortable first, the BIG Bear is a low geared ATV so it will not run out of power but it tops out at 40mph even with the motor screaming.

I had one and like it, just a bit to slow for the logging road sections for me,but sure will go places a 2wd can not .

 

alright, so she is slow, but has power? Thats more what i'm looking for is power. Love the speed on this bombardier, but going on trails (trails around here) it isn't all that great cause the clearance is bad and she keeps getting stuck.

 

Its geared low so it would snap its axles or CVs off before the wheel stop turning due to being buried in mud.

How reliable is she? being a Yamaha i'm assuming she is reliable?

Also is the one in question stuck on 4x4? or is it switchable, its got 5 hi gears, and 5 low gears

 

My was a 89 350 Big Bear full time 4x4 with a low range sup tranny, it had no working odmeter and was rough looking (see my Pics) but my guess was maybe a zillon miles on it. I sold it to a friend 4 years ago and hes still riding it around.

The 99 may have selectable 4x4 but not sure.

 

I know its a different machine entirely but I ride a 2000 Suzuki KingQuad 300 and Im a big guy at 330lbs.

The KQ has high, low and super low range.....Ive pulled concrete anchors out of the ground in super low with ease. It has plenty of power in low and super low. In high if Im out blasting around on the gravel roads and come up on a hill it will loose speed FAST.....downshifting is necessary often. If you do that kind of riding then this would be a big issue. Leave it in third and bomb around and its fine.......try to make it scream in 5th and its gonna run out of power fast.

Trail riding, climbing hills, mud bogging......no issues. Working.....no issues.

 

4x4's get stuck too!

 

Not nearly as easy as a 2wd gets stuck though.

 

If I remember correctly, the big bear has a differential in the front, so they are only 3 wheel drive. Put an aggressive set of rear tires on it, and the DS650 will go lots more places than the big bear, due to the long travel suspension. I put a set of super swampers on my 02 ds650 and pull the 4wd's out of the mud all the time.
