Default What quad to start with?

hey guys new to the forum and ATVing in general. Just turned 17 and i'm getting my license and a few of my friends have or want quads and we're all gonna start riding now that we can drive ourselves to riding spots. Just wondering what ATV i should start with.. i know people have different opinions and certain people swear on brands and what not. so tell me what you think. my one friend has like 6 or 7 quads and a house in upstate NY so i've rode there like 2 or 3 times. I've never rode a clutch, always automatic, but clutch does't scare me it looks a little harder but more fun. i've rode a semi-auto but it was kinda gay in my opinion. I don't really want a utility quad obviously, leaning more towards sport. I'm not a bitch looking for something like a 350 or bigger.. I'm 6'1 200lbs. just let me know what you think. i would probably buy used.. looking to spend tops 3 grand i guess. i don't know anything about quads so don't tear me a new *** if i said something stupid just correct me and tell me what i need to knwo.. thanks for the help

Welcome to the forums, I think you should take a real close look at the Honda 400ex. User friendly, can be modded to the moon when you get used to it, bulletproof engine, requires little maintenence and would be big enough for you.

I was thinking a Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, or Yamaha in the 300-400cc range also. There are lots out there and they are pretty bulletproof.

Look for a Honda Rancher 3 to 4 year's old. They have a gazillion used ones out there. Run it a few year's and then upgrade.

I would get a yamaha banshee and it better be piped out and perhaps a big bore kit on it... as for riding gear I would wear shorts no shirt and flip flops.. that should get you on the right track. Your Welcome

KMac, there are some big difference in the capabilities of various ATVs, so it'd be helpful to know what type of sport riding you plan to do. Motocross or Trail Riding? All one kind, or a mix of the two? Do you have any utilitarian purposes for an ATV? Lawn/ranch work, etc.

in my opinion its big enough for u fast and bad *** its a lt250r 2 stroke quad just like a 400 u can customize it and dont bore it most quads last longer when u dont bore them but u can stretch these or anythang u want very easy to work on fit for trails and/or tracks these can keep up with stock 400s or even modded ones and some 450s or if u got cash in hand get a quadzilla 500cc of 2 stroke power rideing gear i would get shorts and jersey for summer ect.. ps the lt250rs in nice shape around 1500 lower or higher depending who u deal with on them
