Default Another - "help me choose a 4x4" Tread - Please

I am looking to buy a used - possibly new 4x4 quad. It will have little use/abuse, mostly around the farm for getting to my treestands for hunting and also I want it to handle plowing my driveway in the winter. My biggest consern is reliabilty and enoug power to plow a little snow. My current quad is a 1986 225 moto 4 yamaha. It has served me well for a long time but is geting old, does not handle snow at all and gets stuck pretty easy in the little mud I do see on the two tracks throgh the woods I hunt. Any help or suggestions and why would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and happy holidays - Bob Urban

BTW - I am in Michigan and would be willing to travel with my trailer a ways for a quality bike

Default Bigger is better...

For plowing snow, hauling deer and tree-stands and dragging a few logs all stuff that i do I'd recommend at least a 500 4x4.
All major brands seem to be on par with each other though i have my favorites.

I have a 700 KQ and that things a beast.
I was able to sell my wood truck and snow blower because it exceeded my expectations as a worker.

If you catch the snow before it piles up you could get by with a smaller quad but the bigger the better when it comes to work.

I would say either a sporsman 500 or a King Quad 500- both are fuel injected with either a locking front diff on the KQ (AWD on the polaris), both have an independant rear suspension (IRS) and both are reliable and have plenty of power. I think the Brute force, Outlander or Grizzly are more of a sport utility trail atv- tho I guess a grizz 500 would work well.

But given what you want to use it for- I'd choose the KQ first, then the sportsman, you'll love'em both...

hell, just buy them both! it's only money

I suggest the AC 500. I’ve got 7,000 very hard miles on mine – think racing my brothers, friends, etc thru mud, snow, gravel roads, trails etc, pulling all kinds of chit like logs, trailers, cars (but mostly other wheelers stuck in the mud), plus very cold winters in N Mn and worst of all – nephews… The only thing I’ve had to do is replace the two front rubber sleeves on the front axels – all rider fault ‘cause of getting them torn on logs & sticks poking up in the wrong direction….

With a block heater it starts right up no matter how cold it gets.
