I am looking to buy a GPS for trail riding. Which one should I get?

We use the Rino 530 HCx, by Garmin. It has a unique feature that lets you see the location of other Rino 530 users on your GPS. It also has a two way radio, so you can talk to the other members in your group. Also has weather channel, and several other features. You can even download topo maps of your area, which really help.

IMO, they're getting to be a lot like computers. The best this week may not be next week.

What I'd look for is one that has the most features I'd use.

The one DesertViper described sounds like it would be a very good one for riding. Especially in groups.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 500 as it has both street maps and topography. If you do buy it don't get the update. It causes conflicts between the topography maps and the street maps so you can't use them both at the same time. Other than that major screw up on Garmin's part it's a nice unit and not too expensive.

I have an "antique" Garmin GPS-12 that works just like new. I would buy Garmin again for a replacement.

That's another reason I bought the Nuvi 500. It is waterproof also. You can get memory cards with water bodies on it for fishing and navigating.

The delorme pn60 is the best trail GPS I have used... it's not that user friendly it's more for people who know whats up. It's not that hard it's just not a TOM TOM LOL... but once you learn it it's the best I've seen... there is nothing that GPS cannot do!!!

All the Gamewardens and other people working the woods here in maine all use the delorme PN series GPS units

Probably has a lot to do with supporting the local economy as DeLorme is based out of Freeport, ME. They do have good products though. Everything from their maps to their GPS are pretty good.
