Looking at some snow removal equipment for my ATV.

What is the word on snow removal? Plows or blowers? Advantages/disadvantages to each?

Looking at the poly blade from Polaris or the Bercomac blower system.

The only thing that limits the plow is how much snow you can push before you lose traction. The wetter the snow the harder it is to push. With a blower that's not a problem. I guess you're talking about an ATV mounted blower so it would obviously be more expensive as it has it's own gas engine. You can go a lot faster if the snows not too deep with the plow. Just some random thoughts.

 

I bought a plow because I didn't have anyplace to blow the snow to. Now I just push it all off the end of the driveway. It's as much fun as it is a chore. The blower seemed to take a little longer too.

 

You need to post at least your location so we have an idea of the amount of snowfall you get.......

 

My friend mounted the Polaris Snowblower on his 500 Sportsman,and he said the unit was so heavy that if he tried to lift it with his winch the back wheels came off the ground before the blower.

 

Sorry guys, I am in MN... MOST years we get plenty of snow (not this last year tho), some heavy wet stuff, but also some powder.

Are plows generally more accepted than blowers for ATV? Is it a matter of cost, time or storage space?

I dont have a large driveway (suburbs) but its more than I want to shovel and depending on snow conditions... I dont know which is the better of the two for general snow removal.

 

For deeper, wet snow, the snowblower can move more than a quad with a plow. Deep powder isn't as much of a problem. I've gone through 2 foot deep powder on a quad. With the wet snow it gets pushed under the quad and eventually lifts your wheels off the ground leaving no traction. So, for anything but wet, deep snow, I think the plow is the way to go. Faster, easier to mount, takes up less space in the garage.

 

If you don't have a huge driveway, I wouldn't even think about the ATV blower setup. They are just too expensive.

I have a plow on my Scrambler, which works great and actually makes it fun. I also have a walk behind blower, which works much better when we get a good dumping of the heavy, wet stuff.

The cheapest ATV blower I've seen is about $2500, and some are over $4K. For $2500, you can get a plow for your ATV and a nice walk behind blower, and still have $1000 left in your pocket.
