Default ATV Training

Bought a new Polaris so I get a free riding class. Here in Atlanta we have the Honda Off-road school in Alpharetta. Both my kids have attended and they not only enjoyed it, but learned sone good skills. I however, have been riding dirt and street for 30 years, but all on bikes. This is my first quad. Would the class be beneficial for me to take as it is an entire day. I know quads handle differently will the class be teaching just basic riding skills or good hand eking techniques?

if it's free, take it. don't know about your state, but here in Texas, you got to have the ATV training safety certificate to ride on public lands. there are several privately owned or municipality owned trails that also require the certificate. heck, i think some states honor each others atv safety certificates. the classes offer handy information. safe riding equals fun riding. please check out your state's requirements or your neighboring states' requirements as you may want to make a road trip sometime in the future. remember, you want to spend your money having fun and not on hospital or funeral bills, let along a mechanic's bill for the repairs. just my two cents.

A worthy 2 cents. It is free and I figure if I learn one thing it would be worth it. As for it being required, I haven't encountered that, but you make a good point that other states may require it. Besides, it is a day of riding.

Thanks for the incite.

I think a lot of the manufacturers offer a $100 coupon or some kind of deal like that for the riders who go to the class. Worth it to me.

Polaris pays for me and any other rider in my immediate family. Would seem silky just not to do it. Thanks for the replies.

The coupon towards gear is usually in addition to them paying for the safety class.

i took the class back in 2007 when i bought my grizzly. took the family through it also as yamaha paid for it all. even after all my years of riding, i learned some key techniques that i did not know that work and help out. PLUS i learned about TREAD and to tread lightly and become an outspoken ambassador on behalf of the ATV world. it's a great thing.

I took a class for free and I think it was worth the time. I also got a coupon to buy some accesories with. I can't remember how much it was worth.

when I bought my new can-am the dealer offered me $100 to take the safety course- I declined. it wasn't worth my time and I didn't feel the course would've "enlightened" me any - with the 30 years I have riding dirtbikes and atv's-

that being said- I think it's a fantastic program for anyone who has never ridden an atv- or a young child looking to get into the sport-

I took the class in Michigan, then again in Wisconsin to be compliant with the trail patrol program.
