Cool Honda Recon for a 215lb Man??

Hi, new to the forum.

I have never owned an ATV - Had a motorcycle when I was young (10-16).

My wife and I want to go explore the deserts and high country of Arizona and decided to get some quads. We wanted to start out cheap to see if we would really use the machines. She has a Kymco 150cc and I am ready to buy a 2007 Honda Recon with 20 hours on it.

Do you think this Recon will support my bodyweight on hills, sand etc.?? I am 6' tall and weigh 215 lbs lean. Is 250cc enough?. I didn't want to spend more than $2500 at this time.

Thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks,
Kevin

You'll need to use the lower gearing to get up hills and through sand but it will do it for the most part. I've been on a Recon when I was a lighter 300 lbs. It did okay.

A 250 power wise is not the problem, it can carry a 200lb person alone with 200lbs of stuff on the racks as well.
Its just that the Recon has a "small chassis" and may feel a bet cramped. You have to move to a 300 or 350 to get a larger Mid size chassis.
Arctic Cat was the only ones who made a 250 with a mid size chassis years back.
