Buy in Canada or USA

i know with cars it's often cheaper to buy across the border even after you pay the tax and add some of the small things needed to be legal but i'm not sure the price gap on an ATV would be worth it.
using the 2013 KingQuad 750 with power steering as an example the Canadian MSRP is $10,599 and the US is $9,499 only $1,100 difference. not sure what province you're in but we'll use Ontario as an example. at $10,499 you're paying 13% HST and to keep things simple we'll put the licence fee at a flat $100, you're looking at just under $12,000 to buy here
now across the border you'll also pay sales tax and lets assume you're buying in Michigan which is 6% then you cross the border and still have to pay HST and the licence fee so $9,499 then the 6% bring the total to $10,068 then HST and license fees brings it up to $11,476 and you may also get knocked on other fees such as environmental. start adding on your gas which will take 1 trip to actually make the deal and a second to pick it up and your savings will be very small if any
you might be able to find a bigger price gap when you actually talk to dealers or look at other brands but you really need to do your homework and find out exactly what fees you'll pay on both sides of the border then decide it it's worth it
