Default 1995 Polaris xplorer

I have a 95 Polaris xplorer and the starter will not stay engaged when using the electric start. Replaced the bendex and same issue put a jumper cable on and it stays engaged until engine starts put a different battery on it and same issue. Have to keep hitting the starter button to get it to start. Wondering if anyone has any ideas what to do the Polaris dealer looked at me like I was nuts when explaining the issue.

Check connections from the solenoid to the starter. Also just using a test light can help narrow down the problem. If the test light lights up on the starter wire itself every time you hit the start button, but the starter is intermittent, have to keep pushing the start button for it to engage, starter itself could be dirty, has worn brushes,or a flat spot on the armature armature. If the light is intermittent at the starter when you keep pushing the button, could be a solenoid or left control switch problem.
