#1
Hello I have a 1988 polaris trail boss I love the machine, it ran really good but then me being an amatuer, i cleaned the carb good but could not remember how many turns in and out the idle screw was or the fuel air mixture screw, so could someone help me out with the stock carb settings on it please and thank you

The small air screw usually sets between one to one and one half turns out from a lightly seated position. The big knurled idle adjust is just turned in or out until you have a steady idle.. It just raises or lowers the carb slide. Here's a pdf breakdown on Polaris Mikuni carbs and fuel systems that might help you understand better.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...,d.aWw&cad=rja

I turned the fuel air mixture screw out what you said and adjusted the idle screw got it to idle and put the throttle needle clip in the middle slot but with about 2 hours of riding it used up about two and a half gallons of gas, I thought this was weird so I pulled the plug and it was all black with carbon, got an suggestions?

Check for any leaking around the carb bowl or lines. Cleaning carbs may not always help. I'd install a carb kit.Plus if the float arm and pin are worn replace them too.Not available in carb kits. Only difference could possibly be the pilot jet and main jet,but you can reuse yours if need be. The kit still uses the same needle and seat plus all other parts including the bowl gasket to rebuild it. The needle and seat alone from a dealer would cost you that much or more.
Here's a couple videos on your type carb that may help.

I think I might have to replace the throttle cable because it has a kink in but I could only find one that was for an 1989 trailboss and I was wondering if it would fit my 85 trail boss?

Older atv parts are getting harder to find and expensive, but this place shows to have them. If they don't, some on ebay are cheaper any way.#15.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-Polaris-Throttle-Cable-85-86-Scrambler-Trail-Boss-7080298-/171451598612?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27eb4fc714&vxp=mtr

OK thanks and I was on eBay the other day and saw a trail boss speedometer for like the 1985 1986 trail boss and was wondering if it would hook up to one with 2x4 because I heard that they were for only the 4x4 kind of trail boss
