My quad is backfiring while riding. Seems like it happens every 10 mins or so and lasts about a minute or two. Also i went through a small puddle that caused a splash and the bike quit. It started after a minute or so. Any ideas where or what to look for? I'm thinking that the 2 issues are related just looking for a where to start looking solution to the problem.

Thinking more inline with the tbap connector and harness as the back firing is usually a sign that's where the problem is. Common problem on efi machines and the thin sensor wiring. Not so much the sensors themselves. You can get a better repair kit here for the 500 Only The Best than what Polaris sells.Plus look over this "sticky" post on efi problems on the 700/800 machines which includes the 500 also.https://atvconnection.com/forums/pol...ap-wiring.html Plus codes may or may not show up if with wiring or connector problems. You can try to jiggle the wiring leading down from the sensor into the harness and see if you notice a change in the engine. Can be a bare wire, soft internally melted wire,or a wire may have pulled out of the cheap connectors.

Didn't notice about the puddle either.. I'd pull the electrical connectors and blow them out first and use some electrical grease. Hopefully that may be the problem. If not,I'd check into the tbap harness. Same thing on the plug cap. Pull it,blow out any water around the plug and put a dab of electrical grease around the cap lip.
