Just put the regulator on and now it sounds like the stator is buzzing. You can feel the pull rope vibrate when it does it. Almost sounds like a bug buzzing around in there.

What's the charging rate at the battery? Like I mentioned sometimes a stator can cause this also and take out a regulator. Best to have a manual to check out the stator specs, but you can check the yellow wires leading to the regulator from the stator with an ohm meter to give you a general idea. There should be some resistance between each yellow wire with no wire shorting to ground.Plus have you removed the cover to check if anythings loose in the stator area? Plus might help to know what machine it is to begin with.

With the new regulator and battery it's around 12.5 with gas about 13.7. It's a 2004 yamaha grizzly 660. The noise didn't start until I put the new regulator on it.

Regulator wouldn't have caused the noise. Again I'd pull the cover and check the stator and flywheel area out. Could be in the starter clutch area on the flywheel making noise.

Thanks for all the help. Got tired of fixing one thing and something else braking on it so i traded it for a 03 honda rincon 650. So far the only thing wrong with it is the 4x4 light and esp flashes i've seen a few solutions that ill try but it drives good and the 4x4 still works.
