need cold start help
#1
I have a redcat dpx 250, just got it. It has about 300 km on it. 2006 model.
When it gets cold it's a real difficult thing to get started.
Once started it works fine runs good and can be easily restarted.
I read that it needs the valves adjusted?
any help would be appreciated.
I am very mechanically inclined so working on an engine or carb is not an issue.
what to do to fix it, is my problem.

Sometimes the choke lever at the handlebars moves normally yet the butterfly valve at the carburetor remains stuck or half closes. This results in the fuel mixture at the start(cold start) not being rich enough causing a difficult start.

Not all chokes are butterfly type (block off air)...some simply add more fuel to the idle circuit (plunger type). It could be a valve issue...since you mention the easy start after warm-up (metal expanding a bit). Pics/video will help...

ok this is a "picture" of my carb, yea this is new and a 'stock' photo, but I'm sure this is it.
the black "cylinder" that the yellow and blue wires go into in this picture. on my carb that black cylinder gets very warm to the touch. Is that suppose to happen? this is when I am trying to start it, It hasn't even ran and this is very warm to the touch.
What part is it? what is it called? does it come apart? Is it suppose to twist?
I cannot get the camera into the area to take a picture of mine, it's too crowded.
