Default break-in period question

I always change my engine oil and oil filter (dino oil like Maxima Premium), any transfer cases, and differentials at 1 hour. This gets any metal shavings out right away that may be left over from machining......to late for you already. My personal experience has been that Hondas and Suzukis come very clean from the factory, but Yamahas come surprisingly dirty.....not good news for you either!

How did you break it in???? Probably to late for that too: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I change the engine oil and filter again at 5 hours, and at 10 hours switch to Maxima Extra an ester synthetic oil.

I know your owner's manual will say to break it in easy, but they do that for liability. You think they are going to tell you to go out and rip on a brand new machine that you aren't familiar with??? The lawyers won out on this one.......

I broke it in just like I'm riding it now. I've never rode them any different in the first 10 hours.

So, maybe you lucked out on the break-in by accident?

I still would have gotten that oil out of there a long time ago................

Do the differentials and transfer case too. Take a good look at them all and check the oil for shavings. Maybe Yamaha has cleaned up its act in recent years, but my Blaster and Warrior came filthy from the factory (that was a dozen years ago).

oh, I changed it the first time at 10.6 hours, I'm just not going to change it every ten hours, thats nuts to me. I think with yamalube in it I should be able to go 50 hours between changes. I'll be the guinea pig lol.

I hope you are kidding! I only got like 60 hrs. on my machine and I've had it for a year and a half......I guess some people only change oil about as much as underware

HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU LEAVE THE OIL IN YOUR CAR???? now do you see why I think it's overkill to change it every 10 hours? kinda rediculous isn't it?

Where does the liquid go when it beads off? Depends, I guess.

Just read the link to the engine break in. Thanks it was very informative, but a little scary. I just wonder if there is any difference in 2 stroke or 4 stroke engines. Also if you do not follow the manufacture's guidlines for service do you void your warranty? I've invested 18,000.00 in new machines and if the dealer advises what and when to service I'm going to do it. Then they can play the "blame game" with themselves if something breaks.
