polaris ranger

I hit the wrong key, but I do have a Polaris Ranger; have had for two years now, and use it extensively for farming and hunting. Am especially interested in the new model and anyone who has one who can compare it to the previous model.

I have a relatively new series11 Ranger 6X6 (10Hrs). So far I am very pleased with it. I have ridden one of the older machines only once so can't give you a very good comparison. A couple of obvious improvements, the older one had basically two bucket seats, the new model has a bench seat with room for three. I thought the older one was quite noisy. While the new one is supposed to be quiter, it is still too noisy and needs some sound dampening which I intend to do myself. The new one is good for 40+ MPG and while it supposidely has more power (probably the 500HO engine, but not sure of that), it still needs more power, the 700 twin would be ideal. The machine is surprisingly quick off the line but still seems a little sluggish with two people aboard. But then, I also have a Sportsman 500HO so am spoiled when it comes to performance. I have made a number of mods/additions to mine which I can pass along if you are interested. I would also welcome any info/advice/experiences others can pass along regarding the 6X6.

I would be interested in the mods you made; I haven't done anything to mine beyond a winch, brush guard, and a few other standandard things.

Not sure which model you have. I Have also added the brush guard. The winch is a good idea but I don't have it yet. I felt Polaris was too proud of their top and windshield so built my own. The qtr. in. Lexan for the w/s was $130 and qtr. in. white opaque plastic for the top was $40, I just cut it to size, radiused the corners and bolted it on with ss hardware. I aslo cut a piece of Sunbrella which attaches with snaps to cover the gap below the w/s. The Ranger has a lot of wasted space under the front bonnet. I mounted a shovel, small toolbox, coil of rope and a hand winch in there, with room for more. That's about it for now. Polaris could have done a better job of engine noise insolation. I find the machine too noisy so plan to begin an engine compartment insolation project soon using contact cement and qtr. in. insolation batting. The top and w/s make the noise much more noticable. I am geneally pleased with the Ranger and will continue to make changes/improvements as I hear of them. It needs the 700 engine and I suspect Polaris knows that and it's just a matter of time, there will be a trade in my future when that happens.

Well I might be, although this machine has been bullet proof to this point. I can't take my daughter with me in the front so that would be the big reason to get the three seater model. Let me know where to give you a ring . . .
