Default Help with new rifle

I use a ram rod some times with a patch, but I really like the "snake".....makes it easier....both or good if you use them properly.I like the composite rod,and a clean patch for starting the shot, the snake after that on a group.

Default Help with new rifle

Ok. Got a scope picked out. Called my local dealer who sold me the gun. I was sure I was gonna have to pay dearly for this scope if I bought it locally. Since he has very little stock I have to have one shipped. He mostly has VX-II's and not silver. Now he can only get the new VX-3's sine they aren't producing any more VX-III's or one that he wants to get for me.

This VX-3 3.5-10x40 Silver Duplex lists for $625 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...X:IT&item=220382155834 sale price $449.98.

This VX-3 4.5-14x40 Silver Duplex lists for $725 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...X:IT&item=390035895975 sale price $623.98.

But I decided on this one. VX-3 4.5-14x40 Silver Boone & Crockett lists for $825 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...X:IT&item=390035895975 sale price $623.98.

I was lookin to invest $500-600 anyways. And got all I wanted from a local dealer at a fair price. Gonna pull the trigger tomorrow. He should be able to get some silver hardware to mount it with. I haven't looked.

What about a sling. I was lookin at just a simple military sling. Anyone have favorites? I'd love to get this out next weekend.[img]i/expressions/heart.gif[/img]

for bolt guns I prefer the old school national match service slings.

Midway sling

Turner Sling

Proper use of a sling seems to be becoming a lost art. People seem to rely on shooting sticks or bipods now.

My supervisor recommended this one. Kinda pricey though. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/...tle=COMPETITOR%20PLUS? RIFLE SLING. I was kinda liking this one. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...12/94/i221294vr02.jpg

Paid for the scope today. Be here Wednesday he said. The easy parts are about done now. Its gonna be a long week til I get out and shoot.

I'm old school on that one. I don't want ANYTHING abrasive going down the barrel!</end quote></div>

WOW! You must really be old. [img][/img] So you have never used brushes?</end quote></div>

I was referring to the new barrel lapping products. Putting an abrasive on the bullets and then shooting them to polish the bore. Oh yea, I am OLD. 62 April 18. 14 more working days, 112 working hours, 2 more Mondays 'till RETIREMENT!!! Then every night will be Friday night, and every day Saturday!!!

Its says so right on your username. But 62 isn't old is it? There's no way i'm putiin anything on bullets to polish the bore either. Hadn't really heard/read about that. I was more interesteda in a straight cleaning to rid the bore of any buildup during the initial firings. Congrtas on the RETIREMENT!!! All the best to you and yours!

Anybody ever use a Vero Vellini sling? I was looking at thier High Cimbing Double Sling but seems like it would not be compatible with my Camelbak hydration pack I like to take. Their Safari slings look real nice. Here's a link to theru their catalog and other info http://www.pioneer-research.com/verovellini.asp.. I can't get this link to work right, sorry.
