Default 84 Big Red 200es one spark wonder, help

Can anyone tell me if the one spark to the plug I'm getting each time I pull the recoil is CDI module failure or something else. I've checked out most everything. I know its an oldie but it needs to be saved. Anybody have this condtion before?

I know this sounds pretty low tech. but try tapping the cdi with a screwdriver handle or something and see if you get a few more sparks also clean the connections. I have a 350x that I ran for about 6 mo. with a bad cdi. When it didn't want to start I would hit the cdi and off I went. Had to wait till I found one on e-bay.

I would take a closer look at the pickup coil on the side of the cylinder head

I've checked the pickup coil (pulse generator) two wire ohmed and the resistance is 25 a good #. I still can't figure out why the spark plug boot has 0 continuity without the spark plug wire connected to it?

Im pretty sure its going to deal with the cdi or a bad connection at the spark plug.

Default One spark wonder is fixed

The 84 Honda 200es big red is up and running. The CDI that checked out bad on the digital multimeter was bad according to the Honda repair manual. $157 later and a trip to a Honda dealer for a new CDI module and a spark plug boot cap and it fired up instantly. By the way the old spark plug cap that had no continuity, the new one has no continuity or resistance either so it must have something inside the plastic cap that creates the condition, possibly carbon core. The spark plug wire does have a resistance reading and it checked good also. Now to replace the bent forks and install rear brakes and it may see 5th gear this season.

Thanks all for the replies

Thanks SDM111,
I did the tapping with screwdriver thing and it worked. I've been beatin' my brains out over this one. It's good now. New cdi coming.

Later Lee
