Not a whole lot of Recon posts?
#1
I just recently bought my wife a '02 Recon ES. I have been looking for info, good or bad. There does not seem to be a whole lot of Recon posts. Is this because nobody owns them or is it because they are very reliable machines & nobody needs help fixing them? I was just wondering. Seems like all the other quads have their fair share of posts. Thanks.

If you click on the "search" above and then type in "Recon" and check off "Honda". (Also you need to enter a time period.) This will bring up the Recon threads.
My Recon has been a reliable machine to date. There has been some threads with Recon problems.
Another reason there aren't alot of Recon threads is because there are not alot of add-ons available for the Recon. So people aren't posting stuff like- "I have this problem since I added this to my quad."

My daughter was having a shifting problem with her Recon and I posted it in 3 forums and two catagories in each of the 3 forums, and not one reply. People read them but no reply. If it had been a Rincon I am sure I would have had several responses.
Maybe I should change my name and signature??????

Ours has been running flawlessly for years. A K&N and MegaMaxII really perked the little bike up. Otherwise, not much to post about!!! I personally don't trust the ES shifting though.

I've owned a Recon for 5 years now. I also own 94 and 03 TRX90s, 01 400EX, 02 Wolverine, 04 Suzuki LTZ250, 95 XR100 and XR200, and some go-carts.
I live on acreage with plenty of bordering government land, so my 6 sons and I do a lot of riding.
All things considered, the Recon is our favorite toy. ALWAYS reliable, smooth, fun, stable, easy to ride. I don't think there is a better quad value.
When we want speed on the competition hills of Sand Mountain, Coose Bay, or Dumont we grab the 400EX (looking forward to upgrading to the rumored CRF450 quad); If we're in the mood for a more agressive ride using body to 'throw the quad around' we jump on the LTZ250; if we want problems (so far mostly electrical) we coax the Wolverine. But if we want a little of everything, on a comfortable, easy ride, it's always the Recon. It's heavy enough and has a low enough first gear to go pretty much wherever you want to go (assuming a decent set of tires), carry a reasonable payload, and tow home broken-down Banshees and Grizzlies. Yet it's fast enough, light enough, and well-balanced so as to easily and comfortably whip the rear-end around, spin donuts, and do some fun jumping. And when you just want to hop on a quad and tool around the property, nothing beats the recon. One thing to note: many companies that provide guided 'quad-tours' use Recons.
On reliability: My wolverine is less that a year old, doesn't get ridden much, and has already been in the shop twice. NONE of my Hondas - though they get ridden *far* more (especially the Recon) - has ever been in the shop for repair.
Assuming it fits your needs, you can't go wrong with the Recon.

My recon is almost 2 years old and very little problems. I have had it serviced once and the only problems I have had is my front brakes never work, my clutch needed adjusted, and the rear hub came loose once. Other than that it has been flawless and those problems aren't very big and are common maintenance. Though I do think I have a front bearing going but that is from doing to many donuts. All you have to do is keep the oil changed often because there is no fillter only an internal screen and it should last forever.
