I took the spark arestor out of my 400EX today(the silver piece at the end of the muffler) and I have to say, it sounds like its got *****. THere is a tiny power gain but the sound is a cross betwee a mini Harley and a hewey(spelled that wrong probably). ITs a great sound, you should try it.

Tried it and no doubt it sounds meaty. They should sell these quads to sound that way stock like the sound of the yz400. Sales will increase. With arrestor out try taking off airbox lid and test run. This probably is the cheapest way to get more torque at lower RPM.

You guys like the sound without the spark arrestor? Sounded too much like a blown out glasspack for me.

I much prefer the sound of an ATC350X with the spark arrestor removed, very nice controlled, throaty, powerful sound.

From what I've heard you have to change the jetting if you take the air box lid off.

ATC250R, never heard a 350X but I'll take your work for it.

Yes yes yes, I bought my 87 250X with the spark arrestor already removed, man does it sound like it will eat 300EX's that still have their spark arrestor, it is sweet!!!! throaty is how i would explain it.

If you want performance and sound purchase an aftermarket pipe. If you take the airbox lid off (recommended) increase your main jet to 165 to start. If at full throttle it runs good go up one. Continue going up until it starts to sputter then go down one and your set. UH-1 Huey
