Recon wont shift down

She goes for her first ride with the family Saturday morning. It's down on power compared to our other quads but very nice overall and should see alot of use this hunting season. Just curious, have you looked into any 250ex parts to mod your recon?

Mr45Auto, I haven't really looked into the 250EX parts much. I think my skid fits both the 250EX and the Recon. When things like the exhaust and shocks start to wear out then I will probably look into 250EX parts more to see what is available. I wonder if the rear shock would fit off of the 250EX? The Recon shock has 4.9" while the 250EX has 5.7".

moto93, A maladjusted clutch might cause it to shift hard, or the clutch to slip, but not to not shift at all. I don't have the parts book handy, but there is a clip on every other transverse mounted engine I've had apart. Its underneath the rear cover and keeps the shift shaft from moving.

Yea, there's a few circlips in there but i don't see how one could just 'fall off' unless it broke in half. I've never seen that happen, have you? I just got done replacing a clutch in my Daughter's Recon due to years of lazy kids not shifting like they should. I also found out the hard way that the clutch won't work if you put the spring plate in backwards! The book doesn't really show a good pic of how it was supposed to go and I forgot after waiting a week for a new clutch to arrive.

They did mention it being on the shift shaft. Anyhow it works and they covered it. Rode it today and although it's not fast it is a great little machine. The kids really enjoyed it as well as the wife. Very easy to ride over rough stuff, almost forgot that utility machines can be alot of fun too.

No, the recon isn't fast, but it is peppy and the fun factor is high. Have I ever seen a clip fall out, moto93? I've been doing this nearly twenty years, and sure I've seen them fall off, break, come out of their groove. Not very often though.

There are only a few 250ex parts that will work on the recon. For example the skidplates will fit on both I believe, but a 250ex exhaust will not mount up to a recon because of different mounting places. Before you get something for a ex to go on a recon you better check to make sure it will work or else you might be wasting your money. Though if your going to take anything for a 250ex and put on recon I would put on the disc brakes. It would be a bit costly but I think well worth it. I know if I had the money to do it thats what I would do, thenagain if I had the money for that I would buy a 400ex .

I'm sure I've got some pics of the Warrior somewhere, when I find em I'll update my gallery here with them. I think I paid $300 for my works steelers and got $80 for my old ones on ebay. It also has the FMF performax pipe, torque stuffer, mikuni round slide carb, pep steering stabilizer and maxxis all tracks. Heck the tires are so good I think I'll put a set on the Recon too. I'm not sure the motor will pull that much tire tho so I might put my 50% worn all tracks on the recon and buy new ones for the bigger machines. Anyone here try different tires on their recons?
