Default Recon wont shift down

I just picked up a used Recon 2001 that for some reason wont shift down. Is there something easy I'm missing here??? It feels like it wont click at all. I'll take it back to the dealer tomorrow for a once over as they said if there were any problems they'd take care of it. ???? Btw it's not an ES it's the manual shifter.

Default Recon wont shift down

How did you get it home? I'm just wondering if someone had it in neutral at some time. Did you get to ride it at all? Did you try to rock it back and forth a little while you shift? I can only think of three things:
1. It is in reverse and you need to rock it a little to get it up to neutral. 2. It's up in the higher gears so your kinda lost to which gear it is in and it needs to be shifted down, down, down. (maybe with a rock and a or nudge.) 3. Three is bad and it involves someone harming the Recon and then trading it in to get rid of it. But the dealer should have noticed if something was wrong with it. Hopefully it isn't anything too serious. At least the dealer should take care of it. Good luck.

I just have a feeling that it's in reverse. Just a guess.

Default Recon wont shift down

It was at home when it failed, I had just taken it out of my truck and had less than 100 feet of use on it! I've rocked the hell out of it, tried moving the shifter, I'm just stumped....if the dealership doesnt make it right I'm gonna nut up! Hopefully they will do the right thing as I am a regular customer in there!

Is there much resistance when you try to move the shifter? What were you doing when it messed up? It could have something broken in the shifter somewhere. Will it start up with the electric start when you hit the button? Will it move at all when you give it gas? Good luck getting it fixed.

It just wouldnt shift, and of course with no neutral it wont start either. I took it in to the dealer and they apologized and said they would try to have it fixed by friday. I am assuming they will cover it as I went through my salesman to get it in. They are handling it in a professional manner so far. If they do right by me I'll be sure to send on an atta boy for them.

Sounds like a gearshift linkage problem. Should be no biggy to fix it.

Default Recon wont shift down

Just picked it up today, the dealer said a clip fell off a linkage in the case and was easily repaired. They buttoned it up with new gaskets and an oil change and it runs like it should. They also stated if I have any problems whatsoever I should not hesitate to call them and they'll make it right. A+ service. Now that it's resolved I'll mention the dealer, it's Action motorsports in Oregon City OR. I wouldnt hesitate to buy a used quad from them again after this. Good customer service.

It's good that they stood by their quad and did the right thing. I had a problem once and when the salesman saw me coming. He went the other way. Jerk! I won't be buying anything else there and had the problem taken care of by another dealer.

How do you like the Recon now that it works?
