Good sporty hill climbing tires for honda recon?
#1
Anyone have any suggestions for a good hill climbing tire for a Recon? Prefer a sporty tire. So far I am looking at the Maxxis All traks. Maybe even some Bear claws but they seem to be more of a aggressive type of tire. I want something that will allow a little slide in the corners and a tire with a flatter type of profile. The hills here in NW arkansas are dirt and loose broken hillside rock. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It probably depends if you are going to change the wheels to a different size because certain tires might not be available for the stock rims. I have to say that I like the stock tires. There was an article on a Recon with Kenda tires. My Warrior had Kenda on the back and they didn't grip as much as the Goodyears.
I'm trying to decide if I should buy stock Goodyears or some other brand for my Recon. I would want to keep the sizes as close to the stock sizes as possible. Between the two you mentioned, I like the looks of the Maxxis All Trak better. The All Trak seems like it would wear better.

I think a lot of the Recons nice handling characteristics are due to the stock tires! I am long overdue for a new pair, and I think I am going to go with the stockers. I am afraid a change might mess the handling up.

I agree that the sizes on the recon are quite suitable for the performance available. I just want something with a little more bite on hill climbs. Mainly just for the rear tires. I was thinking that the All Traks on the rear would work well and Titan fast trekkers would work well on the fronts. Bummer that the Titans don't come in a size that will fit. At least from the sizes that I have seen available. By the way, is there any way to go to a 10 rim on the front tire or do the drum brakes pose a problem?

The maxxis all traks are lighter then the bearclaws. I have no problem sliding my bearclaws around turns but I don't really know how they do on steep hill climbs because I have never had to do any yet. The only handling difference I noticed with more aggresive tires is that in loose gravel it is harder to keep it straight because the tires want to wander more, but on Hardpack trails at normal speeds they are just as good as stocks.
