1987 200SX

Hi, Im 15 and all I got is a 200SX. I couldnt afford any better, I gotta buy a car.
Well, its been burning about a quart of oil a day...which is bad. Ive cleaned the air filter, and changed the oil. Didnt help.
My dads gonna help me rebuild the engine, but Im just curious. Is there anything you can do to those to maybe make them a little more peppy? I think its pretty impressive for a four-stroke 200cc, but still. All my friends have Banshees and stuff and it just sucks.
I dont expect to be able to keep up with the best but is there anything I can do? My moms old 3-wheeler decimates it, but I would expect that is because she had a lot of aluminum vs. my steel. Any improvements to this thing would be great. I cant seem to find any performance modifications or anything though.
Im more of a speed person btw, I like sand drags the best. I dont wanna race, but I still dont want people telling me handling and suspension parts when I really dont care about it.

Hey, I was reading around on the forums, and some people recommended adjusting the clutch for better launches.
Im looking through the manual, and I cant find anything about this. All I see is assembly/dissasembly.
And what would I adjust it to? How would I know if it was right? I really need help on this stuff.
What would Cobra exhaust do? Just change the sound? What would the sound resemble?

i still have mine, its a '86 but it can still out run my Rubicon on top!!! Just take it to the next oversize and put in some valve guides and seals and your set for another billion miles or so! I havent seen any cams or pistion kits for it though

Ya just bore the crap out of it. Call up a local shop and see how big they can bore it. Slap some sort of silencer on it and it will be a whole new bike. Shouldnt be to expensive either. Just shop around a little.

So,
Cobra exhaust
K&N Air Filter
Ported & Polished
Stroked&Bored
and thats the best Im gonna do right?
would it even be a noticable gain? cuz Im not working with much to begin with.
Opinions?
Remember that I would probably have to work all summer for this stuff.

Hey, i know a lot of you people think this is crazy but monkey take your air filter cap from under your seat and drill about 5-7 big wholes in the cap and put it back on.. it makes about a 4 mph difference when i had it clocked

First off, go back to your original statement..... burns a quart of oil a day.... Think about that. If you are burning a quart, how is it doing so? More than likely your valve seals are leaking...Secondly and probably more important, your cylinder is glazed, or possibly scared (sp?) Anyway... if oil is seeping past the rings and being burnt, then the opposite holds true as well.. As your compression builds, just before ignition, that pressure is not what it could be. What I am saying is that fuel and air is being squeezed by the piston moving up, but that same air/fuel mixture is seeping past your rings and into the crankcase. Do a compression test. Odds are your compression is way down. At minimum, valve seals, honing the cylinder walls and new rings would be in order. If your compression was way low before, your bike performance would astound you after a top end rebuild.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
