#1
bought a used 1997 recon and it ran pretty smooth for the first few times, but now it feels like the gears are slipping when im shifting up around 4th gear, and occasionaly on other gears. what could this mean!? my guess is the chain lis oose? make sense?

Yea, I think it is the clutch plates. I adjusted them by following the instructions in the book, but it didn't help at all. I think I may need new ones. How much will this cost to fix, and is there anything I could try to find out for sure that they need fixed.

Well as far as I'm aware of the only way to make sure the plates are worn is to tear into them and have a look at them. But since its a 97 and you tried ajusting it and that didn't work then chances are they need replaced. The plates aren't to expensive and you can get an EBC clutch kit for the recon too. Check out www.rockymountainatv.com and they carry them. The recon are known for having weak clutches and if driven hard they will wear out soon, so whenever my plates are gone I'm gonna get the clutch kit.

Ok.. well i think the whole clutch plate thing is whats messed up, BUT i've found an oil leak in the rear! Could this make everything wear faster, or even can this make it a more difficult thing to narrow down what all is wrong? Where is the oil leak, is it in the rear differential or in the rear of the engine? If it was in the diff. I dont think that would cause it to be slipping but you better get it fixed before you get water in there and ruin all the gears.
