250R hot rod crank

I am planning on putting and Hot rod crank long rod in my 88 250R but I was told I will have to put a spacer plate and run a 86 style piston is this true why would I need to use a spacer plate when it is a long rod same has stock or is the hot rods longer than stock and why do I have to run an 86 piston could someone help please thanks

the 1986 250r, did not have a spacer plate. It was a short crank, then in 88-89 they went long rod, I believe the the piston pin (or whatever is located like 2 cm higher on the 88-89's, but im not sure. I dont know why you would use a 86 piston in a long rod kit, but yess you do need that spacer plate or your piston will go threw your head.
