Default 400EX stalling when idle

Hey guys.

I recently installed a White Brother pipe. I also have a K&N filter with no air box. I live at 700feet elevation. My main jet is a 170 DYNO JET KIT and the idle jet is a 42. The Dyno needle has been set at 3rd notch.

After installing pipe and jet kits, when I run for some minutes, then I am having problems staying idle. I am also having better chances of stalling when pushing the throttle from idle to *whatever*... It just dies 3 times out of 4. The screw under carb is set to about 2 1/2 out.

What is wrong?

running rich where? idle jet, main jet, needle? screw??

I mean, the main jet seems ok since my WOT response is reall good..
When I start it, it idle just fine, so I guess the IDLE jet is ok too.

It's just when I push the throttle to go from idle to whatever throttle you like.. small push, or hard push, same result..

Sounds lean on the needle, raise the needle by lowering the clip also you may want to come out more on the fuel screw. Try 3 turns out to see if it helps...

Powerslider, thanx.

The needle was my next move. I'll try that tomorrow.

Yes, there is an idle screw which is changing idle speed... do you think i should play with it?

Ok guys, I tried to raise my needle one notch, and it was worse. Idling very badly, and smoke coming out of exaust. So i reverted it back to the 3rd notch. Any other suggestion?

Do you still have your airbox lid on? I am jetted the same and have a white bros and K&N and mine runs fine. You only jet to a 170 if you remove the airbox lid. And this may sound stupid but did you seat the air/fuel mixture screw before turning it out. You have to screw it all the way in befor you bring it out three turns. I live at 700 ft as well and it recommends three turns out. Hope this helps.

Try leaning it out then, drop the needle to the second groove to see if it improves. I would remove the Dyno jet kit and go with the stock needle and Kehin jets but you'll have to play with it to find the right set up regardless.
