The Rincon is broken in, what to get - do?
#1
Hey guys, im going to be changing the oil for the first time and put a new air filter in the beast. I would like to put a perfomance air filter in it that still blocks alot of debris. What kind of oil and filter do you recommend. Any recommendations on a exhaust and jet kit also? Thanks

that HMF pipe makes some massive noise, so get the silencer pack.
make sure the oil you use is the right weight for temps you ride in. heavy weight in cooler temps will give you high pressure. in arizona, i use 10-40 as per my honda dealers recommendation to "only use 10-40" cause of the heat. i also dont use the honda oil, just costs more and does the same as penzoil.

you can certainly do what you want, and i know the oil debate has taken place a number of times. not sure what additive they would be putting in there for the rincon tranny since GN4 was introduced in the 70's to address conventional (manual) wet clutches.
have seen some tests, and the honda oils lose more viscosity than conventional motor oils in the first 800 miles. oil test
i am not saying penzoil is the best, but its surely as good as the honda oil.
happy riding.

regular oils don't have a friction modifier, using oil that does'nt have this you will destroy your clutch. In atv and motorcycle engines alot of times the tranny and engine are together so you need the friction modifier so you don't tear up your clutch.

Hey Folks I hate the break it to you but OIL is OIL! It all comes out of the same tanks and into different bottles. The only difference is weight (viscosity) and some additives (filler or color in most cases). Don't get me wrong tranny fluid is for trannies, motor oil is for motors and synthetic oil isn't worth the price unless you're a sponsored racer. I spent 10 years working as a blender making the oil you guys use (compounder is the technical title) for the largest lubricant company in the world. The same oil goes into the Honda bottles as goes into the Meijer and Wal-Mart bottles (we filled all their bottle orders). My only suggestion is stick with a major brand. The reason is if they move a lot of product there less of a chance that tank have time to get sludge (usually just airborne dirt) or condensation in the tank it came from. Keep the fuilds freash and it dosen't matter what price you paid, your ride will last as long as it was ment to last...
